Every single culture has a distinctive way to see and feel the world. The Scandinavians, the Saxons, the Arabs, the Japanese have their own feelings, perspectives and hopes. Today I decided to share some thoughts on the Spanish way to feel the world.
Friends:
Spanish speakers find it very easy to make new friends. We talk to people on the street, the people sitting next to us in a plane, street vendors and even the new guys/girls next door. Friendship is regarded as an extension to our own selves. Therefore, we love making friends everywhere. Don’t be surprised if a new Spanish-speaker you just met asks you for your e-mail address or phone number: it’s all part of our enthusiasm to meet new friends.
Families:
Extended families is a common pattern along the Spanish-speaking cultures. Thus, it’s very common to find grandparents, parents and children living together for years. We understand this as part of caring for the needs of our family members and we like to be there to give them support and advice. Families are also the extension of our own selves and the immediate reference to who we are and what we do.
Language:
If you want to learn Spanish while staying/living in a Spanish-speaking country, you will find a lot of chances to learn or improve it. We are constantly using our Spanish all the time. It’s very hard for us, Spanish speakers to keep silent. Silence, unlike in other cultures, is understood as being unfriendly, cold or even aggressive. So, next time you meet a Spanish speaker, don’t miss the chance to use your Spanish. They will be glad to talk to you!
Dance:
Dancing is not only a hobby in Latin America and the Spanish speaking areas. It’s part of our lives. Dancing communicates our joy and happiness, our warmth and willing to be in contact with the others. Try Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, or even the romantic Boleros. They’re all there to be enjoyed and the lyrics tell you a lot of our passions, love, energy and dreams.
